Street Walk at Manhattan
Families are always worth traveling with, and the city that never sleeps, Manhattan, New York, is even more exciting. A few months ago, my wife, our two daughters, and I decided to spend a day exploring this busy and very special borough, its landmarks, food, and atmosphere.
Rockefeller Center:
Our day started with Rockefeller Center, which has always been busy and famous for housing the FAO Schwarz toy store. It is fun and full of excitement, as if you have entered a world where anything can happen, and anything is possible. Both girls were so engrossed in the “Build Your Own Teddy Bear” session, where they dressed up their teddy bears. Their laughter was priceless, expressing joy that was unforgettable—a memory to cherish.
M&M and Hershey’s Stores:
We then proceeded to the M&M Store and Hershey’s Store near Times Square; both were fun-filled sweets for the whole family. The largest candy store of Mars, called the M&M Store in New York, upped the ante by treating its clients to brilliantly colored merchandise and the option to concoct their own M&M mixes. Across the street was the Hershey’s Store, where they had a great opportunity to make their own candy bar, which of course satisfied our sweet tooth. It was a sweet pause in the middle of the bustling business hub.
Times Square:
As the day turned into night, we found ourselves in the heart of Times Square, which embodies the vibe of New York City. The neon lights, towering posters, and bustling crowds gave the surroundings a charged atmosphere. The passion through music and dance in street performances engaged passers-by, adding to the distinctive nightlife experience. This time, we sat amidst the action and watched in wonder at the entertainment before us, particularly the girls’ delight in the technological wonderland of Times Square at night.
Challenges and Delights:
Living in Manhattan was no ordinary feat, not to mention the challenge of parking, especially in commercial areas. Manhattan is one of the most crowded places and jams. Finding a spot was like searching for gold, and when you finally found one, the fee reflected the busy pace of the city. However, the variety of street food available while walking through Manhattan’s streets was beyond average. From hot dogs and pretzels to tangy tacos and corn on the cob, every tasty morsel made discovering the city even more fascinating. Despite this may not directly impact the small-scale tourists on their short visit in New York, the general cost of living in Manhattan is relatively expensive. This can affect the providers of the accommodation, food & beverages, and even the attractions’ prices than other cities.
Beyond the places we visited, Manhattan offers a wealth of must-see attractions for any visitor:
- Central Park: An oasis free from the typical city rush, ideal for leisurely strolls, picnics, or visiting attractions like the Central Park Zoo.
- The Empire State Building: Renowned for its skyline views, especially stunning at night.
- The Metropolitan Museum of Art (The Met): A cultural treasure trove housing an extensive collection of art and artifacts from around the world.
- Broadway: The pinnacle of theater entertainment, showcasing everything from classic musicals to modern spectacles.
- The Statue of Liberty and Ellis Island: Iconic landmarks that illuminate America’s history and its embrace of immigrants.
Additionally, the weather and culture of Manhattan enrich the overall experience of the city. Summer brings warmth and bustling activities, while winter transforms the city with light decorations and ice skating. Spring and fall offer moderate temperatures, ideal for exploring diverse neighborhoods, attending cultural events, and discovering both famous and emerging boroughs. In terms of culture, Manhattan embraces diversity and urban living. From the Latin American rhythms of the East Village to the vibrant Chinatown and the artistic galleries of Chelsea or the soulful jazz clubs of Harlem, each corner offers a unique perspective and atmosphere. It’s a city where every neighborhood is steeped in history and deserves exploration.
Our Experience:
Our day in Manhattan was more than just moving from place to place; it was a journey filled with fun, discovery, and the creation of new family memories. Reflecting on our time in this vibrant borough, we learned that travel is not just about visiting new destinations, but about discovering new experiences and bonding with loved ones.
If you find yourself in the Big Apple, follow the urge to explore Manhattan aimlessly. Immerse yourself in its different regions, indulge in the variety of delicious street foods, and embrace the city’s spirit. Countless sights and sounds await discovery; Manhattan is the perfect place to begin.
